Congratulations to Templeton High School student Kate Nicholson! Kate won both the local chapter and district level of the Patriots of the American Revolution Essay Contest with her outstanding essay.
The Patriots of the American Revolution essay contest is organized by the Daughters of the American Revolution local chapter and is open to students in the 9th through 12th grades. Only one winner is selected each year. This year's topic was "Select a figure from the era of the American Revolution (1773-1783), discuss how he or she influenced the course of the American Revolution, who he or she was, and his/her contribution to the founding of a new nation." Kate Nicholson, an 11th grade student at Templeton High School, is this year's winner. Kate chose to write about Deborah Sampson, a woman who posed as a man so she could fight alongside the men in the Massachusetts Regiment. Kate's essay also won the entire District VII, which includes San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Northern Ventura counties.
Her hard work and dedication truly shine—way to go, Kate!
