COHEN WALLACE NAMED THS MUSICIAN OF THE YEAR

Cohen Wallace was named Musician of the Year at Wednesday’s Evening for the Stars Awards Presentation by Band Director David Landers. The following is what Landers shared about our top musical student of the year.

“Cohen Wallace is one of the finest musicians to ever grace this campus. His skill and comfort with making music is apparent in every rehearsal, no matter the setting. Cohen has played Oboe for 7 years and has developed a strong command of the instrument. This year he was the anchor of the front row of Concert Band, confidently sight reading and performing in a way that elevated the entire band. When he was absent, we all noticed.

Last year, Cohen took a giant leap from oboe in Concert Band to baritone saxophone in Jazz Band. Every concert he played both with confidence and style. Learning the saxophone was seamless and appeared effortless, although I know there was significant effort on his part, even though he never let it show.

This year I was thrilled to finally get to hear Cohen sing as he commanded the stage as Sky in the THS production of Mamma Mia. If you missed that outstanding performance, you’ll have another opportunity to hear Cohen sing at this year’s graduation where Cohen will sing the Star Spangled Banner in a vocal trio with his brothers William and Dexter.”

Congratulations Cohen. Your skills, hard work and abilities on stage and with instruments have blessed us all. Best of luck in the future.
