The THS girls tennis and volleyball programs combined for a complete shutout as they faced Lompoc in volleyball and Paso Robles in tennis. In volleyball, the freshmen won 2-0, jv 2-0 and varsity 3-0. Both jv and varsity tennis won 9-0.
Football is in action this week looking to rebound from last week's road loss in Idaho. THS Cross Country, the last of our teams to get into action will be running this weekend.
Here is your Athletic Week in Review !
THS captain Lucia Barrosa was dominant last night and has provided senior leadership that has helped THS get off to a fast start this year.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The girls varsity volleyball team is having a great preseason starting out 4-0 with victories over Atascadero, Nipomo, Orcutt and now Lompoc. Under first year coach Meredith Phillips the teams seems to be coming together as a team. Next week they take to the road to face Morro Bay on Tuesday and Mission on Thursday. Then to finish off the week the varsity team will be competing in the SLO Tournment Friday and Saturday. A full week of volleyball.
Next week's match up with Mission (6-2) should be an interesting matchup as both teams have had significant success early on this year. The only team that both Mission and THS have played this year is Atascadero. Mission beat them in 5, the Eagles in 4.
GIRLS TENNIS
Varsity tennis continues to impress in the early season going 4-0 with wins over Pioneer Valley, Orcutt Academy, Righetti and now a decisive victory over Paso Robles on the road 9-0 to open league play. Templeton is led by senior Emma Zouabe, this week's Atascadero News North County Athlete of the Week.
Coach Wilson has to be encouraged with the early success of the varsity team. Next week the Eagles are going to be busy. Tuesday they have a home match against Santa Ynez at the Templeton Tennis Ranch and Thursday they are on the road against St. Joe's. On Friday and Saturday they will be taking part in the California Classic Tennis Tournament.
GIRLS GOLF
Girls golf had a strong start to their season with a 3rd place finish at the first "Mini Tournament" featuring 7 other league teams. The Eagles were led by Emma Vogelpohl who shot a 58 at the Mission Club Tournament hosted by Cabrillo High.
The Eagles will hit the links again next week with a rare Thursday match at the San Luis Obispo Country Club in their second league tournament.
FOOTBALL AND CROSS COUNTRY
Football plays tonight on the road against East Baskersfield. This is the second road game of the year but this one is much closer than last week's game in Idaho. Coach Crow is excited to get his team back out on the field. East Bakersfield is coming off a 31-7 loss to Santa Maria two weeks ago.
Cross Country will open their season this weekend with the Big Ditch Classic at Talley Fields. The Eagles have a strong team with some new faces. Not all of our runners will be competing this week but it will show the preseason miles that many of our runners have put in over the summer to be ready to compete to start the year. As always, Coach Rosalie, is confident and excited about her team and the growth that will take place over the season.
