Katie Denissen, a senior in the fall at THS, will be serving as a “Student Board Trustee” on next year’s Templeton Unified School District’s Board of Trustees. In her role she will be representing the students of the Templeton Unified School District by giving regular presentations to the board regarding events and happenings on all of the school campuses as well as casting “preferential votes” on matters that come before the board.
According to Education Code “Student Board member(s) shall be recognized at Board meetings as full member(s), shall be seated with other members of the Board, and shall be allowed to participate in questioning witnesses and discussing issues. (Education Code 35012)
Student Board member(s) shall be allowed to cast preferential votes on all matters except those subject to closed session discussion. Preferential voting means a formal expression of opinion that is recorded in the minutes and cast before the official vote of the Board.

Student Board member(s) may make motions that may be acted upon by the Board, except on matters dealing with employer-employee relations pursuant to Government Code 3540-3549.3. (Education Code 35012)
Katie will be filling the seat of Heer Shinglot who served as Student Board Trustee for two years and recently graduated from THS. When asked about being selected to serve in this position Katie said, “I’m incredibly excited to have the opportunity to serve as the student board member on the TUSD Board of Trustees. I wanted to serve to be able to vocalize the opinions of the student body, and advocate for the needs of all students. I’m eager to start assisting in administrative decisions, and providing the student perspective.“
