The THS Athlete of the Year Awards are chosen by the THS coaching staff and presented annually to a male and female student in the senior class who display superior athletic achievement while competing for athletic programs at THS. The recipients received a plaque, and a medallion to be worn on their gown during the graduation ceremony. The following are the words shared by THS Athletic Director, Joe Farley, at the 2003 Evening for the Stars Ceremony as he recognized Lauryn and Nicky for their accomplishments at THS.
This two sport female athlete excelled in the gym as a volleyball player and on the pitch with the soccer team. During her senior campaign she was Templeton’s lone first team all league selection from the Central Coast Athletic Association. She has been a force on the pitch since her freshman year and she contributed on the varsity team that finished as runner up in Division 3 in 2021. She was also a captain for the girls volleyball program and a three year varsity letter winner in that program. She was recognized by coaches multiple times and awarded the coaches award twice. She is an ultra competitive and dependable teammate and a role model for our student-athletes at THS.
The 2023 Female Athlete of the Year is: Lauryn English
Our male athlete of the year was recognized for his supreme talent on the basketball court. During his time at THS he was able to accomplish what only three other boys basketball players have been able to do, and that is scoring over 1,000 points in his career. This past season he recorded the most assists in THS Boys Basketball with 112 and has the most steals in a season with 86. He was honored multiple times in tournaments and selected to many all tournament teams while competing for the Eagles. All of these accomplishments lead to him being recognized as the Most Valuable Player in the Ocean League.
