Counseling Staff (L to R) - Alexxa Craton, Bre Goetz and Jose Torres
MEET THE THS COUNSELING STAFF
Bre Goetz: Ms. Goetz has been a counselor at THS since 2015. She graduated from Cal Poly SLO with a degree in Liberal Studies and multiple-subject teaching credential but had always dreamed of becoming a high school counselor. After receiving her masters degree in school counseling from Point Loma Nazarene University, she worked for 4 years as an Intervention Counselor at San Gabriel High School in LA county working with at-risk students. Prior to her start at THS, she spent 3 years as an Academic Advisor in the College of Liberal Arts at Cal Poly SLO counseling and advising college students in 17 different majors. Longing for more time with her kids, Ms. Goetz made the difficult decision to leave college counseling and return to the high school setting which has proven to be a great decision. In her free time, she loves riding around SLO on her electric bikes with her wife and three kids, Cora, Grey and Nell.
Alexxa Craton: Mrs. Craton has been a counselor for TUSD since 2017. She has worked at TES, VES and now THS. She graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a degree in Child and Family Psychology. After receiving her PPS credential and masters degree in educational counseling, she worked in LA as a school counselor for a year, followed by an additional 6 years at Monte Vista Christian High School in Santa Cruz. In her free time, you can find her trying to expel the endless amount of energy of her three young boys by going to the beach, water park, and sports practices.
Jose Torres: Mr. Torres is our new counselor at THS as of 2022. He is a native from Atascadero and is excited to be back home in his dream career, which has always been counseling. Mr. Torres graduated from UC Merced with a Bachelor's in Psychology and minor in Public Health. He then continued his education by moving to Bakersfield, CA. He spent 3 years as a College Peer Advisor for Bakersfield College while he finished his degree. After graduating from CSU Bakersfield with a degree in Educational Counseling, he began his counseling career in KHSD for a year before moving to THS. In his free time, he loves to spend time with his dog, traveling to new places, and playing video games!
Kaitlin McFarland: Kaitlin McFarland is the new counseling technician at THS for the 2022-2023 year. She is a central coast native who graduated from CSU Chico with a bachelors in Social Science. She enjoys working with students at all points of their academic journey. She previously worked in the student service department at Cuesta College as enrollment and counseling support staff. She spends her free time enjoying the outdoors climbing and hiking and also exploring the world with her two young children.
