The 2022-2023 THS Scholar - Athletes of the Year Awards are chosen by the THS coaching staff and are presented annually to a male and female student in the senior class who display superior athletic and academic achievement while competing in at least one athletic program at THS. The recipients will received a plaque, and a medallion to be worn on their gown during the graduation ceremony. The following are the words shared by THS Athletic Director, Joe Farley, at this year's Evening for the Stars Ceremony.
This female scholar-athlete was a standout in the pool. This year she finished first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 58.29 seconds. She is also a member of the 400 yards freestyle relay that owns the league records set last year. As a key member of the 2022 Girls Swim team, her name will hang on the banner behind me for THS’ first ever Swim CIF Championship. She was a leader inside and outside of the pool. Her accomplishments inside the pool are almost as impressive as her work ethic and course load inside the classroom. This year alone she is enrolled in AP U.S. Govt, AP Physics 2, and AP Calculus with a cumulative weighted GPA well over 4.00.On top of school and swim she was also part of Friday Night Live, a club on campus that builds partnerships for positive and healthy youth development.
The 2023 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year is: Jenna Sanders
This male scholar-athlete was a pseudo captain for his boys tennis team. Over the past two years he has a match record of 19-7 in singles and doubles. His success on the #1 doubles team at templeton ultimately led to him and his partner winning the league championship in doubles and earning first team all league. Last year he finished 4th in the individual league tournament, earning him a spot at CIF’s area tournament. He was recognized this year by his tennis coach as the Eagle Award winner. His course load this year consists of AP Calculus, AP Language/Composition, AP Physics, and Biotech, and maintains well above a 4.00 cumulative weighted GPA.
